Hi, I'm Bec, a soon to be qualified Occuaptional Therapist. I have a passionate interest in promoting arts in health and have been part of a team advocating for an arts in health project to occur in Baxter Detention Centre for over a year. There is such a need for meaningful activity due to current occupatioanl deprivation of the detainees and this impacts profoundly on mental and physical health. It has been my vision to facilitate an expressive arts project in which the detainees are given the opportunity to creatively explore and express their life experiences and make a political/cultural statement about their hertitage and how that impacts their lives in detention in Australia. I'm so glad that you guys have been given access to Baxter and these people, I think it's a real priviledge to play a part in their lives and act as artistic mediators in bringing a part of their story back to Adelaide for the Fringe. Well done on this innovative and pertinently topical and politically relevant project! If there is anyway I can be involved please let me know. My email is heresbecsec@hotmail.com and I have done volunteer work for the Fringe last year with Rebecca Pearce. Thankyou.
