Fringe 2004 - Opening Parade
The Fringe Opening Night Parade is the one event in the entire Fringe Program that totally embraces the Adelaide Fringe's commitment to community involvement and access. The Adelaide Fringe 2002 Parade drew crowds estimated at 100,000.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Karen Hadfield, the Fringe will once again aim to create an Opening Night Parade that celebrates the energy, diversity, and creativity of it's communities.
The Parade is a welcome, a celebration and a whole lot of noise. The parade is a procession, a promenade, a people's party.
The design theme for the 2004 event will be Environmental: think green, recyclable materials, no vehicles -people powered; A sense of place: cultural identity, celebration of our diversity; Illumination: different uses of light; Loud: drumming, percussion and colour!
The Fringe will invite communities to participate in the Opening Night Parade on February 20th 2004 to help create a visually and aurally exciting event. They will be encouraged to these themes relevant to their particular community which is then creatively expressed in their individual entries. It also gives the communities a chance to celebrate their respect of the environment. The use of recycled and biodegradable materials would be strongly encouraged in the making of the entries.
How can I get involved in the Opening Parade?
Are you an arts worker? Do you enjoy working on community projects and have a few spare hours? Then we would love to hear from you. We need volunteers to work alongside designers to support communities in making their parade entry and making the most out of their Fringe experience!
Or are you a percussionist and know how to hold a rhythm and want to be involved in a large scale event? We would love to have your assistance to work with community groups teaching them new sounds and rhythms.
If you are interested please contact Rebecca Pearce on Telephone 08 8100 2051 or email email@example.com
Want to get involved but you're not a percussionist or arts worker!
Become a volunteer and join in the fun! We will need lots of volunteers to be marshals to help on the night of the parade. There are also other volunteer positions available with Adelaide Fringe 2004 across all areas of the event including Marketing, Production, Programming, Administration and Box Office. If you are interested please contact Rebecca Pearce on 8100 2051 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
