The project is now current again in 2002 and we are well on the way with another set of ripples and event scheduled for October. What is Splash! Splash! is an artistic, ritual celebration of the Sunshine Coast waterways from the range to the sea - and of the communities who live in the catchment. It is an opportunity to creatively explore our connection to our waterways and to each other along these waterways. Splash! offers an ocean of possibilities and projects, both on parade and in performance. Produced by Maroochy Waterwatch in association with the Splash! team, it is an extravaganza built from our many chapters and culminates in an awesome Splash! during Waterweek. Splash! has become a powerful tool to empower and educate the wider community about our regional waterways and habitats, and to celebrate Sunshine Coast environmental achievements. From May - September 2002 The Splash! 2002 artistic team and partner communities, will develop creative responses to the Splash! story, responses or chapters within the broader narrative of the Sunshine Coast waterways and environment ............................. The Ripples Artists will develop their professional artistic response to the Splash! narrative ............................. The Waterworks On Sunday October 20th 2002 during National Water Week, all these responses will be presented. The day will include community participation workshops, artistic installations, the Pouring of the Waters Ceremony honouring volunteers of our waterways, and a performance with dance, music, puppetry, drama, parades, many people and fun with water. ............................. Culminating Splash! Some Background information: The inaugural Splash! in 2000 in partnership with Maroochy Waterwatch was a great success in terms of creative expression, professional process and relationship building across networks in our water catchments. Such was the enthusiasm it has been decided to hold a biennial Splash! project and celebration. This allows for smaller Splash! chapters/projects to develop their own life in the interim. We live in a fast growing region, compromising three local shire councils, with a diversity of interests, and too often dominated by commercial value
