The Brewarrina Circus is a CCD strategy employed to address some significant issues in Brewarrina, a remote town in the north of NSW. The Project employs a number of circus artists who conduct intensive residencies over approx. 6-8 weeks per session. In a town where there are very few activities for young people, this project is engaging with approximately half of the youth population. 95% of the participants are Aboriginal young people. The project aims to provide a focus for the young people of Brewarrina, working together in a creative environment to explore issues pertaining to healthy lifestyles, access to education and living in a remote community. Objectives: The Project Will: § Provide A Creative Outlet Focusing On Young People In Brewarrina § Develop Circus And Other Performance Skills § Develop Communication, Teamwork And Leadership Skills § Promote Positive And Healthy Lifestyles § Establish An Understanding Of Career Pathways In The Arts In Order To Develop An Understanding Of Life Beyond Brewarrina § Develop Partnerships With Local Organisations § Be Respectful Of Local People, Traditions And Organisations By Using A Fully Consultative Approach To All Work Undertaken By 2005, the Brewarrina Circus Project aims to have established itself as a key player in young people's performing arts and aims to establish partnerships and networks with other circus arts projects/organisations for young people.
