  Hyper

Organisation

Port Youth Theatre Workshop Inc

Project Description

Hyper was a hypothetical multimedia courtroom drama held in November 1999. Initially workshops involving Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth from the western suburbs of Adelaide, along with police, judges, lawyers and youth worker resulted in the production of a video that formed the basis of the hypothetical.

The project made young people aware of their rights and responsibilities and explored the lack of options, other than jail, for juvenile offenders. Divided into three stages, the first being research, training and script development. Stage two was creating the video from the developed script. Stage three was the “trial” or performance where a panel of prominent community members were invited to view the video and debate the issues it presented.

In addition the young group performing a rap song called “why do you wanna shut me out?” The footage of the hypothetical is now part of a training video in an educational resource kit called HyperLink. Now available on order from PYTW.
