A community development project for towns which are threatened by changing economic times. Five west coast towns, primary industry is mining.
Mining companies are pulling out and demographic shifts are threatening the future of some towns.
People saw their future in learning to work together and putting aside history of competition. Artists were employed to work with communities to develop art projects and Microcosm was the result.
Another artist was employed to work with each town to make a sculpture in Tasmanian Timber. Each town had the same brief, different timber and were not allowed to see each others sculpture until they were complete. Five sculptures were completed and now promote the individuality of the towns and well as the unity.
The Five town involved in the project were Queenstown, Roseberry, Strhan, Tullah, Zeehan.
