Organisation

Information & Cultural Exchange (ICE)

Project Description

ICE's Community Cultural Development program will be taking three young hip-hop artists based in Western Sydney to the UK to undertake a short-term exchange program with London-based organisation Ocean through their Rising Tide project. The community-based project focuses on contemporary music and performance genres, assisting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain skills in developing, producing and performing their art. It provides a much needed structured environment for ongoing support and encouragement, access to resources, links to youth centers and educational institutions and access to the music industry.

The participants in the exchange will gain experience in the development and implementation of community-based contemporary music and performance training, support and development programs. They will form links with organisations overseas for ongoing information sharing and networking. And they will observe programs and practices in use that could be adapted to the Australian environment, with a view to contributions to the development a comparable resource/program for disadvantaged young people in Western Sydney.
